This is therefore my earliest C. chinense pepper. We have hot days and cool nights, and low humidity, but a fairly short season. Maybe for a time it's like the region in Peru where this pepper originates (the region ranges from Amazon jungle to high mountains)? It goes on producing till frost, and is one of the most productive hot peppers for me. It it not as flavorful or fragrant as described in other texts for me (grown 4 years), but is nice. It does not taste very much like other C. chinense peppers, but is more like C. annuum peppers, and is comparable to a Jalapeño with a bit more fruitiness and not as meaty. One of it's main assets is the color of the fruits, which start light yellow and light green, with violet streaks, some are all violet, mature to orange, and then turn deep scarlet. They dry very well too. The heat of these seems way off in the description too - they are not as hot as serranos, grown side by side, so I estimate more like 10,000 SU.
