'Matador' is a child of 'Dragon's Breat...Read Moreh' on the maternal side and a grandchild of 'Gypsy Music' and 'The Path' on the paternal side. 'Matador' has the most vigorous, well-formed, easy-to-grow bush of all the 'Dragon's Breath' seedlings we have seen or grown. The bush is large, lush, fully branched, and very strong. The 6-8" flower is sometimes the deep burgundy of its mother, 'Dragon's Breath,' and sometimes a vivid, true red. Both colors are always very intense, contrasting with the bright white veins. 'Matador' opens reflexed, then flattens out later. The warmer the weather, the flatter it becomes. When the flower first opens, the pollen sacs are red - an unusual coloration for hybrid hibiscus. As the pollen sacs break open, the yellow pollen is released and covers the sacs, turning them yellow. Released from HVH in 2009.
