I ...Read Morehave found that when I first bring home a healthy 5 gal Lace Fern they are always fragile. ( I have several of these). I keep them in full shade, but soon after arriving at my home, all the leaves get a small brown trim around them. Once I cut these off and wait for new growth, they seem to be fine. I'm getting the impression they do not like to be moved a lot.
