Aloe Species

this is a relatively rare aloe in cultivation- from Madagascar and supposed to be a close relative of Aloe parallefolia, though this one ...Read Morehas rounded white marginal teeth (as opposed to none at all).

Huntington Gardens has been propogating this aloe for several years now, and, with luck, I will learn how to take care of it... last one I got rotted (carelessness mostly, I think). So now I am trying again with another of their specimens. On my fourth plant I have finally discovered this one does NOT like hot sun or freezing cold... may be related to Aloe parallelifolia, but is a lot finickier than that one... does pretty good in partial shade as long as I keep it from drying out.

Supposedly closely allied to Aloe parallelifolia, a similar but slightly more svelt Madagascan species with almost no marginal teeth and more rubbery leaves

Note: do not confuse this species with similar looking AND spelled plant, Aloe howmannii, which is a mainland African species that looks almost EXACTLY like Aloe parallelifolia (but a larger version of it).
