Cyrtosperma Species, Swamp Taro

One such large-leaved plant is this clump of Cyrtosperma merkusii or giant swamp taro, which towers in a corner of my front garden. The biggest leaf is over 2ft long. I have had this for more than 20 years. Ideally grown in a bog garden, mine is in a big pot to curtail its spread. This is a swamp crop which is similar to taro, grown throughout Oceania and into South and Southeast Asia, in riverines. It is believed to be native to Indonesia."
