Dr. Croat believes it may exist in the southern part of Colombia as well but so far no evidence of the plant in that part of the country has been found. As of February, 2008 the species is not published. Thus it should not be used in italics as a published scientific name. It will however be published, likely later this year, and will officially be known as Philodendron esmeraldense Croat. Blades are thought to grow to approximately 30 inches (76cm) and the plant is terrestrial, epiphytic and also grows on stone. Dr. Croat has allowed me to read the unfinished scientific description and this plant is destined to be one serious collectors will want to own.
