I went through all kinds of mess to get this rose! I finally got four tiny plants a few weeks ago... They are doing "all right". Then aga...Read Morein, I was embroiled in a full on war against an infestation of spidermites in my garden right around the time I got them. Oh man... the spider mites were on EVERYTHING!
The Grace Sewards lost all their leaves but they seem to be bouncing back (can you say blackspot?) One of them croaked... I assume from all the chemicals I am spraying. BUT, they all bloomed before they dropped their leaves. It was HAAA CHAAA CHAAAA CHA! VERY pretty, delicate flowers. SO NICE!! It looks like a miniature version of a Cherokee Rose! That is actually why I got the Grace because my Cherokee Rose only blooms once a year, the Grace Seward is a repeat bloomer! Figured I wouldn't be as bummed out about my old school rose not blooming if I had a mini version. ;)
I didn't stick my nose in any of the blooms because I was afraid my face might melt from all the stuff I am spraying to kill the spider mites. So I don't know if there is any scent. I will update the site if they make it through and bloom again.
They are susceptible to blackspot (I live in S. Florida... a virtual breeding ground for blackspot) but, in drier climates, I am sure it won't be a problem. That is actually why I lost all the leaves on mine. So they definitely require regular treatments of fungicide if you live in a swamp like I do.
I did see a few little "nubs" this morning that look like new canes so I may be through the worst of it!! I can't wait till they bounce back!
