"The petticoat daffodils are giving the impression that spring is near. This might be the case in their country of origin, Morocco, but here it is still dark and depressing. Petticoat daffodils can be found on the Iberian peninsula and North West Africa. They come in a range of sizes. Even within one species the colour can vary. This Narcissus romieuxii for example can range from yellow to pure white. A typical feature of petticoats is that they have a very large and open trumpet, very small tepals and very thin grass-like leaves. This gives them an unusual look. Generally they require more light, milder winters and dryer summers than regular daffodils. This is why they are less common in gardens."
