This is not a fern for wet, heavy soils nor deep, dry shade. Think towards the outer shade of larger deciduous or conifer trees where some light and moisture penetrate. I’ve had them thriving in these conditions. They slowly grow into a polite clump about 18-24 inches tall and wide. They are not evergreen for me in Zone 6b but I didn’t expect them to be. One of my favorite ferns.

The plant sure looks like Arachniodes standishii, though, whose common name is "Upside Down Fern." It does NOT look like Adiantum aethiopicum, which is a maidenhair fern that would match the photo on the Lowe's plant tag. Maybe Adiantum aethiopicum is also (less) commonly called Upside Down Fern, resulting in a mixup?
