I scattered the rest of the seed outside and several years later I have many plants coming up in my field. It took at least three years for them to germinate. We did have droughts and unpleasant weather years. It grows in and area with western exposure in unirrigated alkaline Texas clay based soil. I am now waiting for the babies to bloom . I think this year is the year. I have some large babes. Black swallowtails like the nectar. I will be enlarging the patch to other areas of the field and experimenting with in caliche, rocky soil next. They have quite a tap root. They are hard to move and get all the thick long root.
