The Theineman family owns a local nursery which carries a large selection of heirloom Tomatoes and Peppers. They had never offered the Australian Heart to the public until a local Tomato enthusiast, Gary Millwood, suggested that they should to ensure that it is grown by more than one party. So it was included in their offerings in the spring of 2006.
I purchased one plant this year and I really did not expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised when I picked my first Heart. At that point I told several people that it was the best Tomato I had ever eaten. Perhaps I liked it so much because it was the first big red Tomato of the year, but I have since decided that it might not be the best I have ever eaten, but it is definetly the best so far this year.
The fruit is very much shaped like a heart, deep red, and very meaty. This variety has found a permanent spot in my garden where it will have a complete row in years to come instead of one plant.
