I watch it in the spring and then prune selectively, and it always comes back larger and fuller every year. It blooms profusely all summer long and is very pest and disease free, even resisting to some degree a large-scale Japanese beetle attack last year.
Update 2012: still going strong. I am not even able to find them around here (Minnesota) any longer because they supposedly aren't hardy. Ha! I just uploaded a photo that I took in late October...the blossoms get darker as the weather gets colder, but the darn thing is still blooming, even after several frosts and freezes.

Somet...Read Moreimes the blooms slow down when it gets really hot, but then starts blooming again right through the first few early frosts of the year. I haven't had any real pest issues with it either. I've moved mine about 3 times but that doesn't seem to bother them - at least not so far.
