The Cherry Dazzle Crape Myrtle is a wonderful plant. It has beautiful, shiny dark green leaves tinged with a little red. In growth habi...Read Moret it almost looks like Kurume Azaleas and many people stopped and asked me in August if the plants I have lining my drive are azaleas and "How did I get them to bloom this time of year?". They still have red blossoms on them now when most of my other crape myrtle trees have finished flowering for the year. They also do not seem to be too fussy and have weathered a 3 month long summer drought very well. I water their beds twice a week. It is hardier than most but takes most of the summer to fill out again and then often doesn't flower. Since I started growing it in a container and wintering it on an unheated porch it has done fine and flowers heavily every year. Some flowers are true red but some flowers are deep pink on the same plant. It's pretty but not the most impressive red I have seen but this is the absolute best dwarf variety.
Rating neutral as new in my garden. Planted 3 last March and only one is blooming. Can’t understand that since they’re clustered.

This is a compact heavy bloomer that tolerates neglect very well.
