Now ...Read Morethe original plant is not as vibrant as when it was a newby and doesn't flower as much. It seems that it is much more interested in reproducing horizontally in really annoying spots where it is difficult to dig up. I'm thinking I may just get rid of it after it blooms. Also, the stalks and leaves after blooming are not attractive (ugly). I'm glad I planted it and will be glad when it is gone.

Requ...Read Moreires plenty of room to grow vertically, however, and probably about 5-6 feet laterally. Now reaching maturity in its 3rd year, I planted it on the northeast side of the garden next to a 4x4 about 7-ft tall in case staking was required. The bumblebees have adopted both the 4x4 and the elecampane. It's almost grown above the 4x4 and it's only May!
