On germination:
I figured these guys would be like most Ipomoea species i'm use to, so I did the usual soak in water with some (about 1/4 of the 2" by 1" container) hydrogen peroxide 3% solution. Let soak a whole day, no visible effect.
I then tried:
- Fingernail - failed, didnt even scratch it.
- Metal Tweezers - failed, light scratch but no effect.
So I started soaking 3 more and this time I took a metal nail file and vigoriously rubbed the side of one of the seeds until it shone black, but not white. I let the 3 soak for half a day and then I placed them in a paper towel in a tiny ziplock baggie and then placed in a window getting full sun. About 4 hours later the seed I had scratched with the metal nailfile had swelled up and the seedcoat was starting to split apart so I went ahead and planted it about 1/2" into the soil. 7 days later it has popped up and is looking good, the temperature it was at was 75 F during the day and 55 to 60 F during the night, I'm sure if it was warmer at night it would of popped up faster; I also kept it constantly moist as well!
