A blue-violet bitone, often with a few small white streaks or splotches on the falls. It is an Intermediate Bearded Iris that could pass as a member of the hybrid species Iris x germanica. It was bred in 1901 by William John Caparne.
It was featured, along with a white Iris in a well-known painting, and that painting later on a now collectible postage stamp. I have lost the information on the painter, and the nationality and date of the stamp, but will add that info here later when I re-locate it.
