Bougainvillea 'Imperial Thai Delight'

We have purchased a few of the Imperial Thai Delight Bougainville and I love them so far but there is a warning label that states Warning...Read More: Cancer and Reproductive harm. I have searched and I am unable to find anything about the warning. I would like to know "how"? Can you please advise. We have bought these beautiful plants and we are wanting to line our privacy wooden fence with. Are they safe to do so? Thank you so much.

Once a large root system has been established this plant will recover even from hard freezes. Yes, it is viciously thorny, but once you acknowledge and accept that fact, problem solved. Any inconvenience is more than countered by the spectacular display of tropical bloom. If you live in an area with an occasional hard freeze, make the effort to protect the young plant until it is large enough to make a strong come-back.

This bush blooms year around in warm climates, about every 5-6 weeks with resting periods in between which is a good signal to trim to promote flowering. It does best in very bright full sun with frequent fertilization but requires little water to flower.

Here in Florida I've seen this large bush become a nuisance by literally take over any other plants if not kept within bounds by trimming which also promotes new growth & flowering. I have seen these bushes shaped like shrubbery which is not a pretty thing. To do it justice, the majestic Bougainvillea should be trimmed at least once a year then be allowed to wander naturally & cascade over a fence or wall.

By my experience it is a difficult houseplant but I have seen it as a spectacular bonsai. If overwatered, Bougainvillea will not flower & may lose leaves or wilt or even die from root decay.
