Unfortunately, it appears that most of the plants sold in commerce as C. zacatechichi, particularly those claimed to be a "non-bitter var...Read Moreiety," lack the expected bitter characteristics because they are in fact an entirely different, unrelated plant. This imposter is Chromolaena odorata (Asteraceae), which has remarkably similar leaf morphology, and has been listed as one of the world's worst invasive plants by the World Conservation Union. Caveat emptor.
