Note: I hesitate to rate it a "positive" because the of fact that it grows SO fast and it has "spines" or "thorns" which both scare me a bit. To combat the growth you can trim it back quite a bit which I have been doing. To combat the sometimes 2" long "spines" I spent last summer clipping them off and patting myself on the back for making the plant safer. It continued to climb and grow wonderful glossy leaves; it stopped producing flowers. I started feeding it hibiscus food (this is a tropical plant), but still no flowers. Then I realized what I'd done wrong! DOH! The SPINES are long and sharp BUT they will soften on the end and produce the flower!!!
Just plant this where it has room to grow and arch over something and where you won't have to brush past it too often in the garden.
It is stunning in bloom and has a long bloom season in warm climates.
