My plant of Coconut Ice was bought in a local market with an appologie from ...Read Morethe seller that it wasnt one colour...not pure she said...I smile now as I did then...It's now 7 years old and is around 18 feet or more tall it has grown through a hedge and into a pepper tree which is itself around 100 years old and is almost at the top of the tree...the spread is around the same 18 foot...and has been cut and cut ...mind the thorns!
It's THE most amazing site...I will add a picture for you ... People stop and photo it often...it drops and makes a terrible mess..but its worth every second I spend cleaning up...its frost tollerent, and by far the best of my small collection of 7 or 8 other bougainvilla's...truly worth its space.

Mine is eight feet tall and the showpiece of my Bougainvillea collection. I have the plant staked with metal tubing to prevent it from being blown over in heavy winds. I had to do this due to the hurricanes of "04". The spines on this plant are not as severe as on other Bougainvillea plants. This plant can be easily trained in the spring when new growth emerges. The tender new branches can be tied to the trunk to keep the new branches growing straight, or they can be left alone, then they will bend over and become more bushy. Often I find butterflies resting in the shade on branches this plant. This variety as with other varieties bract up during dry conditions. During the rainy months most of the bracts fall off and the foliage will prevail.
