This plant is a California native that grows in low altitude wet locations. The stems are winged, with long, flat flanges along their length. The flowers are about a half inch in diameter.
It seems to do fine in my sunny front yard, maybe a little more water required than other plants, but not a water hog.
Thompson & Morgan calls this "H. puberleum" (sic), another calls it "H. pulchella".
