Supposedly a natural clone from Agave mapisaga var mapisaga, a relatively common species of Mexican agave from some higher elevations. The more common form is used as a source of Pulque (an alcoholic beverage). The normal form has large teeth along the leaves and leaves are flatter, smaller and more upright. This massive clone is no where to be found in the wild and is strictly limited to a few locations about California and Arizona. It offsets slowly and flowers produce no viable seed or bulbils, so there is not much propogation of this rare and amazing plant.
