I am half tempted to add 4a to the zone rating for this plant. I planted one in the UP of Michigan, leeward of a house and a light layer...Read More of burlap over it, and there is not one bit of die-back. It has leafed out rather early, but hasn't been affected by several nights of temps in the low 40s. I'm going to leave the lower branches uncovered this winter to see if they'll make it.
The species is also called A. japonicum, especially among horticulturists.
