The plant benefited from having a trellis to climb and as the melons developed I secured them with panty hose to support the weight of the fruits. It grew to about 4 ft long, not large leaves or vigorous for me, in fact, I think I may try them in a container next year because they were pretty compact. No problems with powdery mildew like my squash plants. Also a nice looking plant in the garden; bees love them. The sunflowers I put next to them were a nice companion plant.
