It forms a dense, scrambling, vining, shrubby thicket, crowding out and displacing native vegetation. It is found in central and southern Florida in St. Lucie, Martin, Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties, including the Florida Keys. A preserve (Blowing Rocks Preserve) on a barrier island (Jupiter Island) in coastal east-central Florida near Jupiter/Hobe Sound and the Palm Beach/Martin County border has LOTS of this plant. It covers many areas of the park. Thankfully, amazing efforts in the preserve are continually being made to remove this and other invasive exotic species, such as Australian Pine (C. equestifolia and C. glauca).
Colubrina asiatica is listed as a Category One Invasive by the FLEPPC, or Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council.
