I filled a 25 gal pot with professional soil mix, and snuggled it against the west wall of my house to let it absorb radiant escaped heat during freezes. A year later it was 15 ft, tall. Two yrs. later, over 20 ft. with culms thicker than a golf ball. Eger to see it's growth this year. This is another plant people said can't grow here. Creative thinking works . A few degrees can make a big difference ! Surely the better soil helped too.

It is basically the green form of the much more popular striped Bambusa vulgaris (vitatta), which also makes for a massive tight bunch of culms that tend to arch and shade out the garden area around it.
