Today, May 14, it two blossoms appeared with several buds. The color is eye-catching. I would describe the color as a rich, deep magenta. It's difficult to tell from photos what the color is really going to be. "Sunset" is a clematis that needs to be seen in person.

The bunches of deep red blooms scampering up the side of the tree are now bringing stranger (and neighbors alike) to my door to inquire about the name of this plant. People walking by one the sidewalk are stopping to ask about it, when they catch me outside. A few have come to the door.
The color is quite deep, rich, and dramatic. I don't think that photos really do it justice, not even the professional photos used by sellers. The blooms actually have a subtle 2-tone coloring, with a center stripe that is almost indiscernible in the spring blooms but often well defined (sort of med, rosy, lavender-blue) in the fall blooms, at least that is what I see with mine. I will post pics soon.
