As I recall it's a Mediterranean plant and is acclimatized to constant moisture, and as such will only grow during warm and moist conditions.
The seeds have a tendency to get caught in socks when walking through areas with the plant and can become quite an irritation. It can also get into pets fur, and due to the nature of the seed structure it will work in only one direction, and eventually puncture the skin of the pet, unless taken care off by plucking the seed from the fur, if not the animal could get an infection from the resulting wound.
I do not suggest propagating this plant outside of where it naturally occurs.
According to USDA, Hordeum jubatum is native to much of North America.
