I planted a one gallon specimen of this plant in November of 2014.
It seems to be doing fine so far but we did get down the 8 last...Read More night 1-8-15.
I will update although the plant looks fine right now.
The plant I commented on in 2015 died after blooming unfortunately.
I was able to secure another larger specimen this year 2016 and it is growing well. I have this one planted in a more protected location so we shall see. It is getting ready to bloom so I'll post photos when it does. I think it needs some nitrogen to compensate for being kept wet mostly.
I have also grown this plant from seed but the germination rate is low. Out of 5 seed pods with about 15-20 seeds each I was able to get 5 to germinate and grow. They are about a foot tall now and doing well so far.
Update 7/22/16
I decided to put my Pinckneya in a pot and it is thriving now. It has grown substantially and looks great. I am excited to see it in flower in the spring !
The Pinckney braceata dies over the winter of 2017. We had a cold snap of 10 days where the temperature didn't get above 32 degrees and I suspect this is the reason. I would grow this in zone 9 or above

OK so I purchased 7 Pinckneya over the summer. 1-20 gallon, 1-15 gallon and 5-3 gallons. They have all been planted and are doing well thus far. I am hoping they survive the winter and and have made certain they are all in protected spots. Some at work and some in my garden.
There were flowers and now seed pods on 3 of the plants and I'm going to use the seed and try to grow some out. I was successful in growing them from seed a few years ago so hopefully this will be the case again.

Ok as you can see by the last two photos in the gallery I was finally able to get a magnificent flowering of this plant in my garden. The shrub was absolutely covered this year and was beautiful. Well worth the wait in my opinion.
