I have them in mo...Read Morestly sun to part shade with some shelter from the NW winter winds. One had a tiny bit of winter burn its first year but never since. They’re in well drained moist soil. I’d avoid heavy clay with hinoki cypresses in general. I’ve seen wildly varied mature size reports for these. Anywhere from 10 - 70 ft tall and between 8-30 ft tall. Margret Roach at A Way to Garden reported her Crispii to be 20ft tall after 10 years while it started at 6ft tall when planted. I’m guessing the planted age was about 5-7 years old based on the first few years of initial growth being somewhat slow for this cultivar. So probably at least a 30ft tall by 10-15ft wide at 20 years.
I’ve erred on the side of caution to give these plenty of room to mature as I’ve seen them limbed up and it detracts from their beauty.

I planted these summer 07, did not provide regular watering nor did I fertilize this summer 08. But will provide recommendations this spring into summer, hoping for improvements!

I'm generally not wild about golden conifers that stand alone but they can be striking if placed among contrasting greens and blues.
