This plant id growing great and getting some size on it now. New growth is plentiful right now. Nice growth pattern.

There is a small (6 foot) specimen growing on the East side of the front entry garden at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens (Gainesville, FL).

On a visit to the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, DC, on Sunday, 3/4/07, we saw half a dozen or so trees of Taiwania cryptomerioid...Read Morees that have been thriving for at least or around 5 years unprotected in the zone 7 winter of that garden.

They are located in the Asian Valley section of the arboretum on a hillside facing east and overlooking the Anacostia River. Growing so much farther north above their given zone, it's amazing that there is no winter browning of foliage as there has been on the Cryptomeria, which has been in decline for some time there.

Also, the needles weep like the Norway spruce does, except they hang in curtains that look like the most delicate lace in sea-green color - much different mood than the doleful Norway Spruce. This is a conifer with which to add light to the winter garden.

From the rate of its growth since it was planted, it looks very fast growing. To soon to tell how big it could get that far north - the camellia collection that was decimated in the 1982 winter flourished for decades until that fateful season.
