This was due at times to hungry deer and rabbits; but other things that I tried (and they weren't fussy types) just didn't grow. It is an area with amended clay, dappled shade in the morning and hot sun in the late afternoon This stachys is happy as a clam there. Hallelujah! Foliage has been green throughout this mild winter. (I'm in zone 5.) I'm ordering more!

Its height reached 12 inches and stopped although the spread has still to be determined.The wrinkled and scalloped dark green leaves add interest when its not flowering. The early summer flower spikes added happy mauve color and kept well when cut for inside.
