It forms small red "cherries" which are somewhat ornamental in June and it can be grown from seed when sown in the fall. It needs winter cold for the seed to germinate properly. But it also roots easily from softwood cuttings under mist in spring or summer. We haven't seen any deer damage on it. In Asia the kernals of the seed are used for many medicinal purposes.
