However, I think they are justified as two distinct species. Cyrilla racemiflora (in the U.S.) is most often found in swamps associated with streams and lakes, in generally flowing water. Cyrilla parviflora is found in depressional wetlands with no surface outlet, often mucky or peaty soils developing, and extends out from these wetlands into poorly drained flatwoods or savannas on Spodosols. It is much like the habitat difference between Taxodium distichum and Taxodium ascendens, also a species pair sometimes lumped together.
