It doesn't require much water during winter since it is dormant, I give it a little water about once a month to keep it from drying out completely. I have grown this species outdoors without any problems but they don't like chalky or clay soils so they can be difficult to grow in some areas. This species is also susceptible to root rot disease so it is important to keep this tree healthy.

I never had any...Read More luck with these in the past,but maybe cause they didn't get enough water and too much sun. This year I will plant it in a larger pot. My plant is still in it's original pot from when it was shipped from the nursery. I have it in shade and it's doing fine. I did'nt expect it to grow and it's growing a little mainly on top. I love it's green color and the needles are very soft. If you smell the plant up close putting your nose to it, will give off an evergreen scent. This plant is categorized as a "false cypress". I was reading elsewhere that it likes acid soil. The foliage is suppose to take on a bluish cast when the plant is older. I have drier humidities in the house and this plant is ok with that. No foliage drying up or dying cause of lower humidities. Once and awhile, I do mist the plant to raise the humidity around it.
