Also, because this plant is a annual and re-seeds itself, pollinators are of huge importance. The number of plants can vary widely from year to year depending upon the seed set.
Incidently, it is not on the U.S. Endangered list as it wasn't properly classified prior to 1989. It was thought to be extinct until it was found again, but unfortunately, not in time to make the U.S. Endangered list.
