Four years ago, I planted out a very large (9'x120')median in front of our house on a busy 4 lane one way street. There are also good siz...Read Moreed crape myrtles canopying said median, some morning shade from a large sycamore across the street and definite afternoon shade from a large hedge and mature trees in our yard. Only about 15% of the plants survived and I have added to them each year, hoping for better growth. Median is sprinklered, which may be the cause of the crown rot and diminutive growth of the plants that have survived. The stems eventually turn brown and rot. The soil was amended w/super soil, so I know it's quality. I have to weed this huge space every spring, plant a few more flats of whatever vinca minor variety I can find to give myself hope. I am purchasing an instant soil test kit next week; maybe the soil is too rich? I am at my wit's end. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
