Currently the most popular apple cultivar in Japan. It was bred in Japan in the 1930's, though not released till decades later. The parents are classic apples bred in the eastern US.

Very late ripening, this cultivar requires a very long season. It has sported many times, and some of its sports are early ripening.

The both do great where we live... +/- 400 chill hours. We have them planted in an area with six different apples for cross pollination.
