Currently the most popular apple cultivar in Japan. It was bred in Japan in the 1930's, though not released till decades later. The parents are classic apples bred in the eastern US.

Susceptible to scab, very susceptible to fire blight, resistant to powdery mildew, various ratings from resistant to very susceptible to Juniper rusts. [HYPERLINK@www.extension.purdue.edu]

Very late ripening, this cultivar requires a very long season. It has sported many times, and some of its sports are early ripening.

Exceptional storage qualities, over 3 months.

The Fuji (along with the Red Fuji) is a favorite apple of mine. I have both a three in one graft on root stock and a stand alone Fuji App...Read Morele tree. The both do great where we live... +/- 400 chill hours. We have them planted in an area with six different apples for cross pollination. Heavy producer even in our summer pruned short tree configurations.
