It's a good idea to trim or pinch early to promote stability and develop a stronger, neater form. I wish I had read that earlier, but I will try it now! There are also several domesticated cultivars with varying sizes and colors that you may prefer. Kelwayi might be the most popular. So cheerful and carefree!

I bought one small pot and from that, the plant has spread out in every direction and now covers about a 3ft x 3ft area in one season. I am keeping my eye on it and next year will see how it does. Luckily I put it somewhere that butts against the foundation of the house and the bulkhead on two sides, so it can't go too far. I imagine it is easy to remove.
