I bought my plant at a local nursery in the succulent greenhouse about 2 years ago. I had never seen one before, and have not seen one since. I put it in a south facing window ledge, and water in about every 2 weeks. I also feed it every other watering with succulent food. I am careful not to over water, making sure it throughly dries out between watering. I put a squirt or two of food in a small catsup size bottle that I use to feed all my succulents.
In the winter we have lots of grey days, so I turn a plant light on for 4 hours if we don’t have sun for more than 5 days.
The bulb of the plant is plump and has a papery skin. Mine is halfway covered/exposed from the gravel, and has not changed much in size. The foliage is small, delicate and string-like, that forms a weblike cluster coming out of the center of the bulb, and mine has more than doubled in 2 years. It has tiny white flowers which drop seeds. I plan to plant the seeds to see if I can propagate.
I recommend this plant. I was a succulent beginner and did fine with it.

One good watering and it plumped up just fine, in a week it was sending up green growth. I recommend sharp draining, succulent cacti potting mix, and weekly or biweekly (every other week) watering in spring and summer when it has foliage. Not sure where it's from, but its got a lot of character

Unless I am doing something wrong, this plant is quite slow-growing. However, like many of the fat-bottomed plants, it has charm.
