This area is periodica...Read Morelly flooded for various periods of time, putting the roots under water, but the plant seems to thrive and flower every year. Additional note: my volunteer cardinal flowers also grow in the same area and under the same conditions. Neither species is listed as particularly flood tolerant, but both may be adaptable to some degree.

Native to southern states and eastern states up to MA. A suckering shrub that grows in shady moist areas.
