Hybrid Tea Rose 'Midas Touch'

It produces more side buds than any of my other tea roses, so if you plan to cut these, make sure you remove the side buds while they're still small. On the stems that I'm not going to cut, I leave the side buds, which results in smaller, but more numerous, blooms.

It blooms all summer and even into early winter if the weather doesn't get cold too early. Mine was still blooming last year in early December, until we got our first hard freeze.

My only complaint, which is minor, is that the blooms that come in the hottest part of the summer aren't very good. All of my tea roses produce blooms which are smaller and with fewer petals in the summer than they do in the spring (which I think is typical any place that has hot summers), but Midas Touch seems to suffer this worse than the other varieties I have. Like I said, it's a minor complaint, but I think it's worth mentioning. But at least it's blooming at all when it's 100 degrees outside :-)

Like all tea roses, this should be pruned pretty hard in late winter or so (as soon as the new leaf buds start to break). This keeps the plant sturdier, bushier, with larger and more numerous blooms. I cannot stress enough how much better tea roses do when they are pruned extensively in late winter/early spring.

Overall, this is a fantastic yellow rose.

As a hybrid tea it does have some faults: the flower stems tend to be on the short side, the blooms often have less than perfect form, the blooms open too quickly and are not long lasting, and the rebloom is not fast.

But it is one of the few yellow hybrid teas I have been able to grow in my climate, so it gets a thumbs up.

I am talking at least 4 inches EVERY time it rains and some days it rained a few times a day... do the math! Well, it helps that I sprayed it with disease protection... the only problem is some of the leaves had a yellowing effect (due to all the rain). I added some fertilizer so hopefully that'll help but I gotta say, its doing great with all the abuse it's had to put up with! S. Florida Summers are brutal on roses!!

Well, it's blooming like CRAZY at the moment and it's still a juvenile. I can't wait till it fully bushes out and has nice BIG blooms on it! It's got a great scent (that is why I got it actually) and beautiful color. SO glad it's part of my garden!
