This is a small tree, endemic from Rio de Janeiro State, living along the coast, on the edge between the coastal rainforests and the rest...Read Moreingas. It grows slowly, reaching up to 10 meters, but usually staying as a short tree for several years.
It has a short trunk, with a grey outer bark that falls constantly, showing the resistant and white inner bark, givinf the tree a catchy look. It has ramified branches with ocasional spines, and light green, composite leaves. The white flowers are grouped in globous inflorescences that atract bees. The seed pods are curly, forming a complex and compact spyral. Seeds are small and pale yellow.
This tree needs well drained soils with some income of organic matter, regular watering, high temperatures and full sun. Maybe the sea breeze can help it too.
