Right now, ...Read Morethe plant has transformed itself into a bamboo grove towering to 6-7 m high and going. Each year it produces higher and thicker culms and it has already shaded the west side of our trailers, so that there is pleasant shade to hide under there.
I actually had the plant since 2009, but tried it in Sofia in a much different climate, where it barely survived the winter. I also almost gifted it, but thankfully, no one wanted a bamboo plant. So away it went to my principal garden where it is already one of the highest plants. A much older cedar and two cypresses are nearly as high, which says something about its growth rate.
I planted it in a conveniently low spot, where the ground could be expected to be moister than normal and this bamboo has responded with an explosive growth rate.

I have not grown this one, but the golden culm version of it... very nice and easy to grow. But you need a very strong rhizome barrier because the roots are extremely strong, large and aggressive.
