My plants are growing in a sub-tropical to tropical climate where they get full sun for most of the day. Water well then let the plants dry out completely for a week or two before watering again. In the winter months allow the plants to show signs of wilting before watering them sparingly. Do not let them dry out too much.

since writing the report above I have found these plants growing in the wild in 2016 in the north of KwaZulu-Natal province just outside of the Tembe Elephant Park. The specimens that I found during a plant rescue operation were growing in sparse open grassland in very sandy soils mostly in full sun others in the partial shade of small shrubs.
