This hosta prefers partial to full shade for best colors and will tolerate dry conditions better than others. I started mine out in an area that was fairly moist and received about a half day's worth of sun - while it grew, it seemed to do poorly. In 2002 I moved it to a new shade garden under a group of white pines where it receives dappled light and the soil is more loamy but a bit drier due to competition with tree roots. This hosta does much better in this location and is proving to be a very nice plant.
