Some say older plants will develop red leaves and some say that the fern we grow in California is a cultivar that never shows red on new leaves.
So far mine is all shiny green.

It's a native of Hawaii and loves humidity. The leaves on it are the most 'perfectly' symetrical of all the tree ferns- leathery and stiff, too. The new leaves unfurl with a maroon glow. It eventually becomes a tree fern but barely a stem (maybe a couple feet at the most). I personally have not had much success with this plant, but it's too hot here where I live north of Los Angeles.
