The flower stems arise to 16" with a relatively large cluster of brilliant magenta flowers. It can tolerate considerable shade and requires an evenly moist soil. It is probably the most widely available North American native primula. They grow throughout the western US in moist alpine meadows, streamsides and wet, stony slopes at an elevation of 2700-4200 m.
