It goes dormant early in summer as most Western natives do, so it takes many years to reach bloom size from seed due to the short growing season. Once established it is very drought tolerant and is not bothered much by our #1 plant pest, slugs. It also grows very well in containers but cannot tolerate dessication so containers need to be kept slightly moist even when they are dormant.
