During the summer, as the sun moves lo...Read Morewer on the horizon, the plants shade the edge of my patio, which is covered by an awning. I am then able to keep my shade loving plants under the awning and protected by the hibiscus and out of the direct hot summer sun. An added bonus is that when the sun shines through the leaves in the morning the whole plant lights up, and the flowers just glow. I cut this plant back by 2/3 in the late fall, when it receives no sun at all, and then as it starts to grow again I just let it go. By the time the sun is back in it's full and hot glory, the plant is tall enough to provide the shade I want. This is a really nice hibiscus.
